Chromatic Metropolis is a layered mixed-media collage built from a screen print of tiles found in the Toronto subway, cut into sections and reassembled. Fragments of screen-printed windows form a dark pink and blue border around the work. A yellow screen-printed acetate layer is raised above the background, with geometric openings and acrylic pieces revealing selected areas beneath.
The composition continues my exploration of fragmenting and reconstructing the city through colour and geometry. Bringing together subway tiles and windows connects details from below and above ground, while the cut-outs function like small viewpoints into the underlying image. Strong contrasts between yellow, blue, pink and black organise these fragments into a new structure.
The distance between the layers creates real depth and casts subtle shadows across the work. As the viewing angle changes, different parts of the background become visible through the openings. This reflects how a city is experienced through partial views and overlapping surfaces, assembled gradually through movement and observation.
