Built-up is a layered collage created through a mixed-media process. I combined drawing on canvas fabric with my sewing machine, oil pastels, screenprinted films, acrylic painting, and paper collage. These diverse techniques work together to build a rich, tactile composition that reflects its title.

The piece was inspired by the way cities literally build up over time—layering constructions on top of an older urban fabric. I wanted to capture the process of transformation: demolishing to build something new and transforming existing structures to accommodate evolving cultural needs. In doing so, the work reflects how urban life erases old cultural archetypes while simultaneously creating space for new ones.

Built-up invites viewers to consider the continuous reconstruction that characterizes urban environments. It encourages reflection on the paradox of rigid architecture that must be reimagined to support new ways of living. Ultimately, the piece serves as a visual reminder that transformation is both necessary and inevitable in any thriving city.
