Description
Screen print made from a digital collage of photographs I took in Toronto. It juxtaposes the familiar Osgoode subway station with a section of the Beltline Trail in East Toronto. The print was built using layered screens and includes a yellow vertical pattern that connects the images.
The piece plays with the experience of moving through the city underground—how we pass through stations without really knowing what’s above them. The two places in the image don’t connect in real life, but they do in the way we move through the city: quickly, without noticing. By placing the snowy forest next to the subway, I wanted to create that moment of disorientation, like when you emerge from a train into a completely unfamiliar environment.
This print came from the feeling of routine—how we repeat the same paths without looking around. I often take the subway without thinking, and only when I started walking more did I begin to notice what was on the surface. The piece invites that question: what’s outside the next stop?
